Machine-to-machine monitoring (M2M) is making inroads in
industrial automation and monitoring.
The
usage of wireless sensor network devices provides an inexpensive
approach to the monitoring of plant equipment such as engines,
generators, motors, pumps and other machines.
Traditional monitoring methods using wired data-logger to sensor
systems are slowly being replaced by a distributed wireless
monitoring system providing a more scalable and cost effective
solution.
The
use of wireless sensor networks provides the ability to place
sensors in an ad-hoc manner. The sensor data will be sent to the
gateway or data-logger using wireless multi-hop communication. |
